City Hall Renovation Eliminates Christian Mosaic

Country: Spain

Date of incident: February 20, 2018

Under the pretext of the restoration of the city hall's headquarters, the government of the town of San Fernando in Cadiz decided to remove the mosaic of the Sacred Heart of Jesus that had adorned the main facade of the building since 1941.

The PP, supported by the platform MasLibres.org, asked the mayor Patricia Cavada to keep the ceramic altarpiece that was traditionally part of the property, reminding her that the presence of this image had not created discussion or cases of controversy among citizens, it had been respected by the different governments of the city over the years "since history, traditions and devotions are also part of the unquestionable personality of the people and can hardly be understood without them."
