Newspaper Publishes Journalist's Vulgar Tirade Against Catholics

Country: Spain

Date of incident: February 10, 2018

The on-line journal Público published a writer's insult-and-expletive laden criticism of Catholics, priests, and a Catholic confraternity following a court judgment against a young man for posting an image mocking Jesus Christ on Instagram.

Writer Aníbal Malvar's piece, entitled "Shitty judges and shitty Catholics." (Jueces de mierda y católicos de mierda), appeared in the February 10th edition of Público. In addition to criticizing the judge who ordered the young man to pay a € 480 fine, Malvar went on to insult and incite hatred toward priests, the Hermandad de la Amargura confraternity, and Catholics in Spain.

Among other things, he said that "some judges and Catholics in Spain are, and have always been, a gang of sons of bitches. Mobsters. Gunmen against humor, beauty and intelligence. Priests have fucked hundreds of thousands of children, and nobody has said anything."

He also attacked the Hermandad de la Amargura, which had previously denounced the Instagram image, saying "A few despicable shits known as the Hermandad de la Amargura, jihadist Catholics of gregarious stupidity, denounced him." (Unos mierdas despreciables conocidos como la Hermandad de la Amargura, católicos yihadistas de la estupidez gregaria, lo denunciaron.)

And also "I suppose the shit of the Brotherhood of Bitterness will denounce me for calling them I do not know ... In spite of my great lexicon, I can not think of how to adjective these swill's feces." (Supongo que la mierda esa de la Hermandad de la Amargura me denunciará por llamarlos no sé… A pesar de mi gran léxico, no se me ocurre cómo adjetivar a estas heces bazofieras.)

Carlos Rueda, chief prosecutor of Jaén, filed a complaint against the journalist. As reported to the media, although the article is insulting Catholics in general, the task of his department is to prosecute attacks on the judicial authority, in this case, those directed against the judge who ordered the fine, Valle Elena Gomez.
