Arson Attempt in Kirchheim
Police investigated a fire and an arson attempt at the St. Martinus parish church in Kirchheim on April 26th.
The sexton arrived at the church just before 6:00 pm to prepare for Mass on the evening of April 26th. Upon entering the smoke-filled nave, she immediately realized there had been a fire. She discovered a prayer book burning on a wooden stand in front of an image of the Virgin Mary and was able to extinguish it with water before major damage occurred. The matches used to light candles on the altar in front of the image were missing.
After an investigation, police assume it was an intentional arson.
The police asked for citizens' help. Witnesses who may have made relevant observations on April 26th around 5:00 pm and, should contact the Euskirchen Police at 02251 / 799-0.
