Statue of Virgin Mary Damaged by Paint and Stones

Country: Poland

Date of incident: January 6, 2018

Unknown vandals poured black paint and used stones to damage the statue of the Virgin Mary in the forest shrine in Gdynia. Police began an investigation and parishioners of Wawrzyńca prayed for the "conversion of the hears and minds" of the perpetrators.

Catholic symbols in the area had been previously damaged: in January 2017, a man broke off the head of a Christ statue; in March 2017, vandals attacked a statue in a chapel; and in April, feces and fish parts were thrown at a church in Gdansk.
