"8M" Painted On The Walls Of Church San Nicolás

Country: Spain

Date of incident: March 9, 2020

On March 9th 2020, a graffiti of "8M" (8th March: women´s Day) was found on one of the walls of the church San Nicolás in Avilés. The painting has been done with chalk.

"I am in favour of the demands of March 8th, but I cannot understand why they are doing this. I would like to ask a certain amount of respect for the art of Avilés from everyone," the priest Alfonso Lópes said, who did not filed a complaint to the police. The priest also decided to leave the painting on the wall. "I am fed up that every time something is organized we are the victims", said the priest and mentioned a crime in the past sufferd by Antroxu, where some men set the transept from the 17th century, placed in the front of the church, on fire.

The real amount of the damage on March 9th still has to be evaluated and the suspect to be found.
