Desecration Of Old Chapel And Third Millenium Cross In Poland

A 40-year-old man first profaned a 136-year-old chapel in the forest of Beskid Maly and then vandalized a Third Millennium Cross on the hill of Trzy Lipki. He was arrested on the following day.

In the historic chape,l a painting of Our Lady of Czestochowa and a cross with the figure of Jesus Christ were completely destroyed. On the following day, the 40-year-old committer from Bielsko Biala vandalized the pedestal, the plaque with a picture, and inscription of Pope John Paul II of a Third Millennium Cross with red paint. The suspect was found by the police on the following day.

The deputy district prosecutor Pitor Sowa explained that the crime was commited to insult religious people and to damage property. "For insulting religious feelings or insulting an object of religious worship, there is a penalty of up to 2 years in prison. Destruction of property is punishable by 5 months to 5 years in prison.", mentioned the niezalezna newspaper.
