Suspicious Fire in Sacristy

Country: France

Date of incident: May 5, 2019

A suspicious fire broke out in the sacristy of St. Peter`s church in Équihen-Plage on the morning of May 5th. Thick smoke and flames were already coming out of the windows of the religious building when the firefighters arrived. The sacristy was very badly damaged. The police are investigating and searching for witnesses.

According to reports, the sacristy door appears to have been broken.  "The site is certainly equipped with at least three video surveillance cameras, but these no longer work," said Mayor Christian Fourcroy. "They are obsolete… We recently applied for a subsidy from the State services and it was refused to us."
