Bells Stolen Of Two Chapels of Saint-Damase and Penitents

During the night of Thursday to Friday, one bell of the chapel of Saint-Damase and another one from the 12th century of the chapel of the Penitents, which was renovated only two years ago, were stolen. Both bells weight at least 300 pounds each. The police are investigating and searching for witnesses.

The village mayor of Ginasservis Hervé Philibert said: "The chapel of Saint-Damasse is located above the village so easily accessible by a path and a it is a little isolated. I think you can go up and unhook the bell easily with aladder. On the other hand, the Penitents`bell is located in the middle of the village, in the cemetery. The gate has not been broken. They pobably passed through the small gate and climbed up without breaking a single tile. They left carrying this bell. It´shard to understand how they plled off this robbery."
