Graffiti on San Dominico Church in Bari

Country: Italy

Date of incident: February 3, 2020

In Bari, vandals defaced the church of San Domenico with Grafitti, found on the 3 February. Among the graffities, the priests found vulgar phrases and symbols and blasphemies.

"We firmly believe that the city must feel strongly offended by such a gesture. It is not only an act of vandalism on recently renovated walls. What is most outrageous is the content of the writings, among which are also a foul and a real blasphemy" - Danilo Cancellaro and Dino Tartarino, Managers of SoS Cittá. (Borderline 24)

"The city continues to suffer similar gestures, demonstrating that there is still a long way to go in the socio-educational field and the objectives are still far off. However, a concrete intervention of presence on the territory is necessary. Also out of respect for the church and its believers those offensive writings should be deleted as soon as possible, but at the same time what is certain, also in virtue of recent news events, is that the city needs a greater presence on the territory of the police to prevent such gestures and punish any offenders. We are certain that his commitment will not fail" (Cancellaro and Tarantino) (Bari Today)
