Country: Poland

Date of incident: December 15, 2020

Four main suspects in a case of robbery from the St. Joseph Church in Puławy have been sentenced to one year in prison. Although the perpetrators were only judged now the theft itself dates back to December 2020. They were found guilty of stealing goods of particular cultural significance. They additionally have to pay a fine of 1,500 PLN which is equivalent to 332,37 Euros.

The group was working for a construction company that was asked to renovate the church. While working they found twenty items belonging to the late Princess Teresa Czartoryska, the tragically deceased teenage daughter of Princess Izabela. The items themselves are over 200 years old and are of particular importance to Polish history and culture.

According to the penal code in Poland, theft of that nature follows incarceration of up to 10 years. The perpetrators were still in posession of the stolen objects, which have now been handed over to the Czartoryski Museum in Puławy.
