A Man Dismantles the Statue of the Madonna

A man dismantled the statue of the Madonna in Via di Ponte Galeria, Rome, on the 13. February. The residents who heard the noise alerted the police, who were able to arrest the man on the spot. The man threatened the police and tried to attack them, he was allegedly under the influence of alcohol.

The Ponte Galeria church is known in the community of the faithful for being one of the few Roman parishes to have hosted the statue of Our Lady of Fatima during Marian pilgrimages throughout Europe. Anti-Christian attacks have been throughout Italy.

In Rome in December 2021, an immigrant in a church in Monteverde decapitated the statue of the Virgin Mary placed in front of the church of Nostra Signora delle Salette. The man had plunged into the courtyard of the parish church wielding a machete and hurled himself at the sculpture, destroying it.
