Chapel Desecrated in Bastia, Corsica

Country: France

Date of incident: September 26, 2010

The chapel of the crypt of Notre-Dame de Lourdes, in Bastia, was attacked most likely on Monday, September 27th. The altar was sprayed with urine and statues of the Virgin were plunged into a water vase, head down.

The sacristan who discovered the acts of vandalism was quite shocked:  “I was so upset. I had never seen such things, especially not in a church and I never thought I would be faced to such disaster in my whole life. It's a shock.” For Father Michael, Sainte Medeleine’s parish priest, there is no doubt: “This is a real desecration. The place was stained voluntarily. It is a satanic act. One does not reverse statues of the Virgin innocently... This is a manifestation of hostility against the Christian faith and the Catholic Church.” Source: http://www.corsematin.com/article/faits-divers/la-chapelle-de-leglise-notre-dame-de-lourdes-profanee
