Thieves Break in and Steal Consecrated Hosts in Guia

Country: Italy

Date of incident: May 21, 2022

Hosts were stolen from the Ancient Church of San Gregorio in Valdobbiadene on May 21st. The side door of the church was forced open and then the intruder opened the tabernacle and took the consecrated hosts. Fr Romeo Penon, parish priest of Valdobbiadene, said: "It is a sacrilege, we fear that they are destined for black masses or séances"

He continued: “These people must retrace their steps - says the parish priest of Valdobbiadene -. I do not exclude that the particles can be used for "black masses". We now live in a society that no longer believes in the Lord but there are many gullible people who follow other things. We must be careful: I am very worried because there are people who do not know what to do and organize séances in which the consecrated hosts that have been stolen could be used."

"It strikes me that nothing else has been touched in the churches - adds Giovanna Capretta, member of the Economic Affairs Council of the parish of Santa Maria Assunta in Valdobbiadene -. On Saturday the parish priest had already noticed the theft in Guia while last night they called me and told me that the side door of the Ancient Church of San Gregorio was open."
