Church Vandalised and Holy Sacrament Descrated in Châtillon

Country: France

Date of incident: February 15, 2012

On Wednesday, February 8th, 2012, at about 1:30 p.m., the chapel of Saint Joseph in Châtillon was vandalized and the Holy Sacrament stolen.

The parish priest Father Thierry Massé said: “Individuals broke into the chapel and, after breaking a statue, ripped opened the door of the tabernacle and stole the three Consecrated Hosts, leaving behind the chalices and the ciborium. The very fact that only the sacred species have disappeared and not the sacred vessels is proof that this is a desecration... an act against us, Catholics, an act which offends us in the most precious part of our faith.” He invited all Catholics to come to a mass of reparation, celebrated on Tuesday, February 14th in Saint Joseph’s chapel by the archbishop, Monseigneur Armand Maillard. “For us, it is humiliating," said Father Massé at the beginning of the mass. "A humiliation which reminds us the one suffered by Jesus during his Passion," added Monseigneur Maillard.
