Vatican Website Hacked by Anti-Catholic Group

Country: International

Date of incident: March 7, 2012

Hackers claiming ties to the group Anonymous are taking credit after the Vatican website went down Wednesday. They displayed the following message: “Anonymous decided today to besiege your site in response to the doctrine, to the liturgies, to the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organization spreads around the world."

The hackers wrote in Italian: “Anonymous decided today to besiege your site in response to the doctrine, to the liturgies, to the absurd and anachronistic concepts that your for-profit organization spreads around the world. This attack is not against the Christian religion or the faithful around the world but against the corrupt Roman Apostolic Church”. The statement also includes a laundry list of other complaints going back centuries, including Catholics’ involvement in burning books and executing heretics during the Inquisition. The hacking mainly affected the Holy See’s official website (www.vatican.va) but several other websites in the Vatican were targeted by the cyber attacking and remained unaccessible for several hours including the Vatican City State website (www.vaticanstate.va), the Osservatore Romano’s website (www.osservatoreromano.va) and those of many departments of the Roman Curia. The Vatican has not confirmed the involvement of hackers in Wednesday’s crash, merely stating that it was due to a “technical problem.” Sources: http://www.lifesitenews.com/news/vatican-website-taken-down-by-pro-abortion-hackers?utm_source=LifeSiteNews.com+Daily+Newsletter&utm_campaign=0eea4fbe7c-LifeSiteNews_com_Intl_Headlines_03_07_2012&utm_medium=email http://anon-news.blogspot.com/2012/03/vaticanva-tango-down.html https://www.facebook.com/notes/agence-imedia/plusieurs-sites-internet-du-vatican-victimes-dune-cyber-attaque/320738324649283 http://www.lalibre.be/toutelinfo/belga/165804/le-site-internet-du-vatican-bloque-par-anonymous.html
