Vandalism on the surroundings of an Orthodox Church
In October 2022, Russian news announced that vandals had smashed down and damaged the vases placed outside of the Orthodox Church of the Intercession of the Mother of God, in Fokino, Bryansk. They reported that a picture of the vandalism was sent to social media groups, where many residents voiced their concerns and feelings of anger towards the act. The police are still searching for the suspects.
One person commented: "What kind of people would do such a thing!" According to the sources, these vases and other decorations were placed by the parishioners, at their own expense.
Some parishioners requested that security cameras be installed.
"I know for a fact that the Father Superior of this beautiful church in honour of the Protection of the Mother of God prays for these people. It is a pity that there is no understanding among those who did this...I hope that they will come to their senses and turn themselves in," said another parishioner of the church.
