Christians Compared to Radical Muslims

Country: United Kingdom

Date of incident: February 23, 2012

Trevor Phillips, the head of the Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), has ignited public controversy by comparing Christians who do not believe that homosexuals should be allowed to adopt children to “Muslims who demand the introduction of Sharia Courts”.

Mr Phillips has criticized Christian denominations who do not accept “equality laws,” such as the one that allows homosexuals to adopt children. He argues that changing the laws according to the desires of Christians would be like accepting the introduction of Sharia law in Britain, as requested by some Muslim groups.

The director of the UK Christian Legal Centre, Andrea Minichiello Williams said: “Phillips is naïve; he does not seem to live in the same England I live in. In a recent interview with the British newspaper The Telegraph he claimed that Muslim immigrants were integrating into British society better than any Christian population, and that Catholic adoption practices were more discriminatory than the Sharia courts.”
