"God is Trans" tagged on Religious Panel during World Youth Day
On August 5, a tile panel depicting the Ecce Homo (an image of Jesus Christ), the 5th station of the ancient procession of "Nosso Senhor dos Passos," was vandalized with the graffiti "God is trans" in the city of Torres Novas. This panel had recently been restored and blessed.
Given that this event occurred on the same night as the beheading of the statue of St. Anthony and Baby Jesus in the same city, it is quite possible that the perpetrators were the same.
The vandalism occurred while World Yoth Day 2023 was being celebrated in Lisbon during the first week of August. There has been an increase in acts of intolerance against Christians in Portugal during this period.
