Arson to Monastery in Stavronikita, Greece

On January 8, the Holy Monastery of Stavronikita on Mount Athos suffered an arson attack. A 63-year-old man has been arrested, after being reported by one of the monks as the suspected perpetrator, and he confessed to being involved in the arson attack.

"The Fire Brigade has prepared a file on the arson, which will be submitted to the Prosecutor's Office of the Court of First Instance in Thessaloniki" the Orthodox Times reported. As a result of the investigation, a 63-year-old man was arrested after being reported by one of the monks. After interrogation, the suspect confessed to being involved in the arson.

He is also being prosecuted for two break-ins at the hotel next to the monastery in the last 20 days. The alleged perpetrator will be tried at the Thessaloniki Single Judge Misdemeanour Court.
