Chapel of San Vicente Vandalised Again

Country: Spain

Date of incident: July 30, 2023

On the 30th of July, the chapel of San Vicente de O Grove was vandalised once more. Its door was forcibly opened, all the windows in the sacristy were shattered, and a broken flower pot, which did not belong to the chapel, was left there. Parish priest Juan Ventura Martínez filed a complaint with the Civil Guard following the incident.

This recent attack adds to a history of similar episodes, including one in July 2021 and a more severe case in 2015 when the chapel was set on fire and the interior was desecrated.

Incidents of vandalism extend beyond the chapel, with the parish church also experiencing graffiti and broken glass in August 2022. These acts are often linked to gatherings of young people, particularly at night.

In response, Father Juan Ventura lamented the recurring nature of these events and their impact on the parish community.
