Vandalism and Theft in Den Bosch Church

Country: Netherlands

Date of incident: April 6, 2024

Burglars broke into St. John's Cathedral in Den Bosch, smashed stained-glass windows, emptied a fire extinguisher inside the building and stole a time capsule intended to be opened in the year 2122.

"Perhaps the thieves thought that St John's money was kept there, but that is not the case," plebiscite Vincent Blom said resignedly. "It would be very tragic if the contents of that chest were to be lost, which is destined for Bosschen people a hundred years from now. The casket has no monetary value, but it does have historical and emotional value." Police investigations are ongoing.
