Desecration and theft at Quirón hospital chapel
The chapel of the Quirón hospital in Torrevieja was desecrated and the tabernacle and chalice were stolen.
Sunday night thieves broke into the cahpel to get hold of all the valuable liturgical material they could find. The thieves left the hospital grounds unnoticed, in posession of the tabernacle, the Eucharistic reserve, an altar cross, a chalice, a chasuble, a corporal and a liturgical book, according to the chaplain, Javier Vicens, to the bishopric.
The material elements that were stolen, the bishopric states, "have their value and importance, but they are not comparable to the sacrilege of the Eucharist. For this reason, any kind of celebration in the hospital chapel is suspended until the bishop makes an act of reparation and atonement for what has happened".
Police are investigating the case.
