"Ave Satan" painted on Church

Country: Poland

Date of incident: October 22, 2024

On the night of October 22-23, the inscription "Ave Satan" was painted on the historic wall of the Holy Trinity Church in Kwidzyn. A 44-year-old man, known to local police for other crimes, was detained. However, he did not admit guilt.

According to local media, acts of vandalism and similar graffiti have recently become a real plague in the city. This time, however, it appears to be an attempt to insult religious sentiments, rather than just mindlessly defacing walls.

"The persecution of Christians is not a topic from history textbooks, but as you can see a story that happens before our eyes," wrote the Franciscan fathers leading the parish after the event.

This is not the first act of vandalism against believers, which took place recently in Kwidzyn. In 2019, in the local cathedral of St. John the Evangelist the cross was destroyed, and alcohol was added to the drip. The crucifix was removed from the wall, broken, and then trampled.
