Nun physically attacked in church
A nun was brutally attacked near Largo di Torre Argentina in Rome on 4 November. The nun was violently punched and slapped in the face after trying to push away the attacker, who had approached the tabernacle in a suspicious manner.
The attacker, a 27-year-old man of Nigerian origin, was arrested by the police.
According to reconstructions, the young man had entered the sacred building with his hood up and in a sentry posture. He immediately aroused the suspicion of the nun, who watched him closely. Fearing that he might commit vandalism or steal from the place of worship, the nun approached him and asked him to leave. However, the man reacted in an unexpected and violent manner, hitting her in the face with a series of punches and slaps.
The nun was injured and thrown to the ground. The aggression was only stopped by the intervention of some passers-by who called the police. The attacker, who had fled, was quickly tracked down by officers and arrested shortly afterwards.
