Priest dies after being physically attacked by robber
A Catholic priest in Poland succumbed to serious injuries in the hospital on November 9 - six days after the physical attack in his parish of St. Albert by the 27-year-old man from Szczytno. The male suspect in this case is in custody, charged with attempted murder. The clergyman was attacked for the purpose of a robbery.
The clergyman Lech Lachowicz (72) was the victim of a brutal attack that took place in the morning of Sunday, November 3, at the rectory in Szczytno. The perpetrator hit the priest with several blows to the head, which caused, among other things, a fracture of the skull bone and swelling of the brain tissue. The clergyman also had an extensive wound on his face.
Father Lachowicz was hospitalized and his condition was described as critical from the beginning. The 27-year-old suspect, who was arrested on Monday and charged with attempted murder, is awaiting a court decision.
The President of the Polish Bishops' Conference, Archbishop Tadeusz Wojda, condemned the violent death of the priest and called for forgiveness: "There is no place for violence and brutality in a civilized and Christian society."
