Fire at Christian centre, suspected arson by left-wing extremists

Country: Germany

Date of incident: December 15, 2024

As reported on 15 December, a pile of rubbish and bulky waste caught fire at the back of a building housing the Bremen police and the local Free Church welfare office. Left-wing extremists claimed responsibility and expressed hostility towards the Pentecostal Church.

While the police station was not damaged, the Christian centre suffered material damage to the extent of around €20,000. An arson attack is suspected and the State Security Department of the Bremen police has opened an investigation.

A letter claiming responsibility has been published on the website tumulte.orgwhich appears to be run by left-wing extremists. It says, among other things, that they see the year 2024 as being full of violence and repression by the state and its protectors. They want to respond to this violence with direct action.

"Last night we blew up tyres and a huge incendiary device made of 20 litres of petrol at the back of the Bremen-Burg police station and the Free Christian Community, killing two birds with one stone," wrote the anonymous author. "The author went on to say that they wanted to burn down the Christian welfare centre because of its traditional views on the family and its opposition to abortion.
