Two arson attacks on Valledoria church in 4 days

The Church of Christ the King in Valledoria has been attacked twice in a very short period of time. The first arson attack took place during the celebration of mass on 5 January, and the second only a few days later, on 8 January.
On 5 January, during the celebration of Mass, a fire was deliberately set in the basement of the church. There was no doubt that the fire was deliberately set, as the equipment used to start it was found in the basement of the church. According to news reports, the parish priest, Don Mocci, intervened to extinguish the fire. Then, on 8 January, a large fire broke out in the sacristy attached to the church, damaging a large part of the building. The flames also reached the parish furnishings.
The police are now investigating the case. Concerned for the safety of the parish priest, the Bishop of the Diocese of Tempo-Ampurias has ordered the termination of his mandate in the parishes of Christ the King (Christo Re) and Our Lady of Fatima.
