Theft and arson attack on a church in Melrand

The region of Melrand, France, has witnessed several attacks on Christian sites in recent years. The most recent occurred on 2 October, when unknown assailants stole several items and started a fire inside the church, which was quickly extinguished.

On 2 October, an unknown person tried to set fire to a church in Melrand. According to the mayor, Charles Boulouard, "there was no major damage and the fire brigade did not intervene, but a stained glass window was damaged, candle flames damaged sheets, and furniture and objects of worship were stolen". 

Unfortunately, this was not the first time that the region of Melrand had suffered such an attack. A few days after this incident, a 34-year-old man was convicted of 13 attacks on religious buildings in Melrand between May 2013 and January 2024. The total damage amounts to more than 60 thousand euros.
