Another attack on a church in the Sardinia region

On the night of 23 January, unknown assailants vandalised the church of San Francesco in Oristano. The Christian community in Sardinia has suffered numerous attacks on religious sites in recent weeks. The police are now investigating all the incidents.
On 23 January, unknown perpetrators caused serious damage to the Church of San Francesco in the historic centre of Oristano. Two crucifixes were thrown against the altar and destroyed, along with various furnishings and flower arrangements; candles were thrown on the floor and a disinfectant liquid was poured on the altar.
According to Father Rolando Ceccherini, rector of the church, the perpetrator(s) probably entered through a small door next to the altar, taking advantage of a connection with the old Franciscan convent, which is currently under construction. Monsignor Roberto Carboni, Archbishop of Oristano, has already reacted to the attack: "I am saddened by what has happened and I am close to the Church and the friars of San Francesco for this sacrilegious attack". And added: "I invite everyone to watch more carefully on the security of the Eucharist and access to churches. This episode reminds us of collective responsibility towards our sacred places”.
The police are now investigating this case and several others that have occurred in recent days in the same region, as reported by OIDAC.
