Arson and vandalism on Marigliano church

A 40-year-old man was arrested after a serious attack on a church in Marigliano on 7 February. The man set fire to the church door and destroyed several statues and furnishings in the churchyard. After a rapid investigation, police were able to identify and arrest the suspect.
The town of Marigliano, and in particular the Catholic community of the Pontecitra district, was shocked to discover scenes of vandalism in a local church. In the early hours of 7 February, a man set fire to a chair and a mattress next to the front door of the Sacred Heart parish church, causing serious damage to the building. The perpetrator also damaged statues and other objects in the churchyard.
After being called to the scene by the parish priest, the police identified the man and searched his home, where they found a can of highly flammable liquid and the clothes the perpetrator was wearing at the time of the attack.
