Arson and vandalism at parish premises in Genoa

On 7 February, the police and fire brigade were called to the parish centre next to the church of Santa Maria dei Servi in Genoa. The authorities found a piece of wooden furniture set on fire and several blasphemous phrases and swastikas written on the walls. The police are now investigating the attack.
Sadly, this is the second attack the parish has suffered in recent weeks. On 12 January, a homeless man interrupted Sunday Mass by grabbing the microphone and shouting into it.
The local news reported that the parish community was terrified and that there was a lot of damage, but fortunately no one was injured.
The series of attacks has provoked several reactions in the Genoa community. Luca Rinaldi, vice-president of the Medio Levante community, said: "I want to express my strongest solidarity with Father Jonas and his parish. La Foce is a quiet neighbourhood that deserves to remain so".
