EU Commission Acknowledges Lack of Rights for Non-Muslim Religious Communities in Turkey
The Commission mentioned for example the closing of the Halki Orthodox College by the authorities in 1971; for its reopening the Ecumenical Patriarchy has been struggling for years. Turkish governmental proceeding would also make clergy formation for religious minorities in the country practically impossible. Besides registration problems, there are also restrictions on property rights and attacks on non-Muslim clergy as well as places of worship.
