According to an official report published by the Hellenic Republic Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs and Sports, 404 incidents against places of Christian religious significance were recorded in Greece in 2024.
In Greece, 98.1% of all recorded incidents against places of religious significance in 2024 have been committed against Christian sites. Incidents primarily affected Orthodox Christian sites (399 cases), including churches, monasteries, chapels, cemeteries, and associated religious property. Recorded incident types included break-ins, thefts, vandalism, acts of desecration, arson or attempted arson, and the defacement of religious sites.
The report also documents incidents involving bias indicators, such as the desecration of sacred objects, damage to religious symbols, and hostile or degrading treatment of Christian religious spaces, which indicate anti-Christian motivation.
The Ministry noted that the data are based exclusively on incidents formally reported to and recorded by state authorities and therefore may not capture the full extent of anti-Christian incidents, reflecting the likelihood of under-reporting.
