Arson and Vandalism Desecrated Church in Panilleuse
During the night of August 22–23, 2025, the church of Panilleuse was subjected to a serious act of vandalism. The altar was partially burned, and significant damage was inflicted, forcing the community to relocate the planned services.
The church of Panilleuse, situated in Vexin-sur-Epte, France, was vandalised overnight between August 22 and 23, 2025. The perpetrators forcibly entered the building by breaking a stained glass window and proceeded to desecrate the altar, which was partially burned. Evidence found at the scene—including spray paint cans, wax, and matches—suggested intentional fire-setting. The incident disrupted religious services, prompting the relocation of a scheduled Mass to a neighboring parish.
Local authorities launched an investigation, collecting forensic evidence including DNA samples. The community, deeply affected by the attack, expressed outrage—particularly as the church had recently undergone restoration efforts. Officials emphasised the cultural and spiritual significance of the site and called for accountability from the offenders or their legal guardians.
