Stone Cross Destroyed in Act of Vandalism

A historic Christian cross in Órgiva was toppled and broken in a deliberate attack.

On May 20, 2024, in Órgiva, Granada province, vandals destroyed the stone cross located at the entrance of the San Sebastián Hermitage, a sacred site built in 1591 and dedicated to the town’s patron saint. The cross was forcibly toppled and broken in what local media described as a “grave act of vandalism.”

The Órgiva City Council responded by promptly restoring the monument to its original condition. No suspects were publicly identified, and no motive was confirmed at the time of reporting.
