Virgin del Carmen Statue and Shrine Damaged for the Fourth Time
Vandals broke the shrine and damaged the statue of the Virgin del Carmen in Rincón de la Victoria by throwing stones. The incident was the fourth targeting the religious site and prompted a police investigation and public condemnation.
In the early hours of May 25, 2024, vandals attacked the image and shrine of the Virgin del Carmen in Rincón de la Victoria, Málaga, causing significant material damage. The Hermandad de la Virgen del Carmen filed a formal complaint with the Guardia Civil, marking the fourth such incident targeting this religious site. The shrine was stoned, and the statue sustained visible damage.
Mayor Francisco Salado visited the site and described the act as “an attack against our culture, our heritage, and above all, against religious freedom,” while urging public cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
