Vandal Targeted Haussy Church: Religious Statues Stolen and Defaced

A man was identified after stealing sacred objects and vandalizing a statue inside the Saint-Pierre church in Haussy, France.

On January 26, in the village of Haussy, France, a man entered the Saint-Pierre church and committed multiple acts of vandalism, including the theft of a bronze crucifix and a figurine of the infant Jesus, as well as the defacement of a statue of Saint Rita. The suspect, reportedly a local resident, was identified through video surveillance footage.

According to La Voix du Nord, the liturgical linens were also found crumpled, though no public statement or motive was provided by the perpetrator. A local resident expressed the community’s confusion, stating, “For a month, there has been incomprehension,” reflecting the lack of clarity surrounding the intent behind the desecration.
