On September 25, 2024, two Catholic churches in Strasbourg, France—Saint-Pierre-le-Vieux and Saint-Jean—were defaced when an unidentified individual threw excrement on their walls. The buildings, located approximately 100 meters apart, were cleaned promptly and sustained no structural damage. Police launched an investigation and circulated a suspect description provided by a witness.

Mayor Jeanne Barseghian condemned the incident as “an attack on freedom of religion” and expressed confidence in law enforcement to “shed light on what happened and preserve public tranquility”.
