Vandalism Prompts Temporary Closure of Church
Repeated acts of vandalism at Heilig Kreuz Church in Hildesheim led to its closure outside of service hours.
In October 2025, the congregation of Heilig Kreuz Church in Hildesheim, Germany, decided to close the church outside of scheduled services due to a series of vandalism incidents. Reported acts included garbage being deposited near the altar, damage to prayer books, and overturned pews.
The church, located at Pelizaeusplatz, had experienced a rise in such disturbances, reflecting a broader trend of increased vandalism in religious sites across the region. No suspects were publicly identified, and the motive behind the acts remained unclear.
