Protesters Occupy Catholic Church

Country: Germany

Date of incident: November 15, 2025

Around 50 pro-abortion protesters entered St. Mary’s Church in Flensburg, displaying banners and refusing to leave until police intervened. The archdiocese of Hamburg underlined that the church is a "holy place for Catholics" and should not "be abused for political rallies and disrespect".

On November 15, 2025, approximately 50 demonstrators occupied the Catholic St. Mary’s Church in Flensburg after holding a registered rally at the Nordermarkt against the planned cessation of abortions by DIAKO. Protesters placed banners inside the church and remained for about three hours. Following a discussion with the pastor, most participants departed voluntarily, while police escorted 13 individuals out of the building and initiated trespassing investigations. A spokesman for the Archdiocese of Hamburg commented, “As a Catholic Church, we are always ready to discuss our approach to the best possible protection of unborn life. But we will not allow a church, a holy place for Catholics, to be abused for political rallies and disrespect.”
