Church vandalised with wax

A church in Beuren, Hochwald, was vandalised, including through the deliberate pouring of melted wax over seating. The incident caused damage to church property and created fire hazards inside the building.

The incident occurred on 24 August 2025 between 09:00 and 18:00 at the St. Paulinus Church, where unknown perpetrators entered the church and lit multiple altar and votive candles. These were placed in an uncontrolled and hazardous manner throughout the interior, resulting in extensive heat, which damaged several items, including the Easter candle. In addition, padded seating on a church pew was deliberately covered with melted wax, and further contamination affected candle holders and the church floor.

The act constitutes property damage and involved the misuse of objects intended for religious practice, creating a risk of fire inside the church. No theft was reported.

Police have opened an investigation and are appealing for witnesses.
