Vandals Desecrate a Church Crucifix and Welcome Sign
A church in Moscufo was targeted by vandals who broke a welcoming sign and attached a condom to a crucifix. Municipal administrators condemned the act.
During the night between November 15 and 16, vandals attacked the Church of the Souls in Purgatory in Moscufo, Abruzzo. They broke the inscription that greets parishioners and attached a condom to the feet of the crucifix at the church entrance in Piazza San Francesco. Carabinieri from Moscufo arrived on site the following morning to conduct surveys and begin investigations, with security cameras in the area expected to aid in identifying those responsible.
Municipal administrators stated: “Such behavior is unacceptable and represents an attack on our historical heritage, cultural identity, and the decorum of the town,” emphasising that the incident was treated as a formal complaint to the Carabinieri. Citizens were urged to use official channels to report such acts, including the municipal protocol office and the town’s Facebook page during holidays.
