Left-Wing Extremists Attack Church Over Anti-Abortion Stance

Country: Germany

Date of incident: December 3, 2025

Radical activists smashed windows and spray-painted “218 abtreiben” on the Free Evangelical Church Kassel-Ost, citing its support for unborn life as the motive.

On December 3, 2025, in Kassel, Germany, left-wing extremists attacked the Free Evangelical Church (FeG) Kassel-Ost by breaking several windows and spray-painting the slogan “218 abtreiben” on the building, a reference to Section 218 of the German Criminal Code that regulates abortion. Pastor Christoph Staub confirmed the incident to the Evangelical News Agency IDEA, stating, “The damage cannot yet be quantified, but it is certain that it will not be paid by the building insurance.”

An anonymous statement published on the extremist platform indymedia.org claimed responsibility, citing the church’s support for the right to life of unborn children and its cooperation with the association “Treffen Christlicher Lebensrechts-Gruppen” (TCLG) as the reason. The statement declared the attack was intended to “take away part of the working basis of these antifeminist actors.” The church had previously been targeted with vandalism and blockades, and Staub noted that the congregation would continue its advocacy for unborn life despite the incident.
