Protestant Church in Erbach Vandalised and Desecrated

Country: Germany

Date of incident: November 30, 2025

A Protestant church in Erbach was vandalised and desecrated. The incident involved damage to church property and degrading acts inside the building.

The incident occurred in the early hours of 30 November 2025 at a Protestant church in Erbach, where unknown perpetrators caused damage inside the building. According to reports, items such as candle holders and pews were damaged. Particularly serious was the act of leaving faeces inside the church, which constitutes a clear act of desecration of the religious space. As a result, the church had to be temporarily closed.

The nature of the acts—especially the deliberate placement of faeces inside the church—goes beyond ordinary vandalism or theft and reflects a degrading misuse of a place of worship.

The incident was part of a broader series of acts in the town that same night. Authorities believe the same group may also be responsible for further vandalism at the local Christmas market and for the mistreatment of animals in a “living nativity” display. Two donkeys were reportedly struck in their enclosure before the perpetrators fled after being confronted by a witness.

Police have opened an investigation, and authorities are examining whether the incidents are connected.
