Utrecht Evangelist Assaulted; Video Circulates Online
At an evanglism event in the centre of Utrecht over the weekend, a street preacher was assaulted by a group of men shouting Islamic slogans, according to reports.
The incident occurred when a Lebanese street evangelist who came to the Netherlands nearly 30 years ago, was confronted by a Muslim man who objected to the preacher’s Christian message. While preaching, a group fo men began shouting counter slogans such as "Allah is one" and "Jesus is a human being." The group began approaching the preacher and one assailant struck him and was reported to have shouted “Jezus is een mens, broer” (“Jesus is a human, brother”) as bystanders intervened to prevent further escalation.
The police were called by witnesses and a video of the attack was circulated on the internet, drawing attention to the incident.
