Christ Child Figure Found Hanging by the Neck
On 21 December, a figure of the Christ Child was found hanging by the neck in a nativity scene in the market square of Bolesławiec. Surveillance footage showed hooded individuals entering the scene and tying the doll to a rope in the manner of a gallows.
The figure, part of the town’s Christmas display, had already been replaced with a substitute due to previous thefts. A passerby discovered the hanging doll and alerted the police. Authorities opened an investigation on suspicion of insulting religious feelings under Polish criminal law.
However, on 31 December, the prosecutor discontinued the case, stating that the figure was a non-consecrated replacement and that the location was not a site of public religious worship. No suspects were identified or detained.
