Roadside Shrine Targeted In Theft
A statue of the Virgin Mary disappeared from a small roadside shrine in the Bródno district of Warsaw, Polish media reported. The figure was taken from a chapel located on Syrokomli Street, where it had been kept behind glass.
Local residents noticed that the shrine was empty and reported the matter to the authorities. According to information cited in the report, the disappearance likely occurred during the night between 23 and 24 January. The glass doors of the shrine were found open, suggesting the statue had been removed rather than damaged.
Otherwise, the structure was not vandalised; only the statue had been stolen by opening the small glass door.
At the time of reporting, the perpetrators had not been identified, and no arrests had been made. Police were continuing to investigate the theft. Similar cases have previously occurred in the country.
