Desecration of Valencia Church in Sacrilegious Theft

Country: Spain

Date of incident: March 1, 2026

The parish of San Francisco de Asís in Manises, Valencia, was targeted in a burglary in which the tabernacle containing the consecrated hosts, along with liturgical items, was stolen. The deliberate targeting of the Eucharist constitutes a serious act of desecration in the Catholic context.

On March 1, unknown perpetrators forcibly entered the parish of San Francisco de Asís in Manises, Valencia, and stole the tabernacle containing the consecrated hosts, as well as liturgical items including a paten, cruets, and several bronze candlesticks. The Archdiocese of Valencia denounced the theft as a serious offense against God and the faith of the community, urging the perpetrators to repent and return the sacred items.

The Spanish Foundation of Christian Lawyers has filed a complaint in the Quart de Poblet Court, citing both sacrilege and theft with force. For the Catholic faith, consecrated hosts represent the real presence of Christ, making their removal a particularly grave attack on the religious sentiments of the faithful. A Mass of reparation will be held on March 7 to pray for mercy and restoration.
