Repeated Burglary Targets Sacred Objects in Quarrata Church
In Quarrata, three ancient chalices and some sacred furnishings were stolen from the Church of Catena but later recovered. Similar incidents have occurred in nearby parishes, pointing to a rising pattern of local church thefts.
Three ancient chalices and other sacred furnishings were stolen from the Church of Catena in Quarrata during a burglary on the night between February 26 and 27. The stolen chalices were later recovered by the Carabinieri and returned to the parish.
The break-in was discovered the following morning and immediately reported to the police. In addition to the chalices, sacred furnishings and the church’s offering box were taken. A parish priest from the area expressed gratitude for the recovery and noted that similar burglaries have been reported in nearby parishes and across the diocese in recent months, raising concerns about the security of sacred objects kept in local churches.
