Repeated Desecration Inside Catholic Church in Białystok

Country: Poland

Date of incident: March 18, 2026

A Catholic church in Białystok has been repeatedly targeted with acts of vandalism and religious offence. A suspected has been identified through CCTV footage.

On 18 March 2026, police in Białystok arrested a 33-year-old man at his residence after he was identified through CCTV footage from a local parish. The man was recorded entering the church, spitting on the altar, throwing a cross toward the tabernacle, and scattering leaflets at the exit shortly before the arrest.

Investigations revealed that similar incidents had occurred repeatedly between September and December of the previous year, involving the same individual behaving in a similar manner inside the church. The state police report stated: “At that time, the same man, wearing a hood, entered the church and behaved in a very similar manner. The man also left handwritten letters containing hateful messages addressed to God and the Church in various locations inside the building.”

Following the latest incident and evidence of repeated behaviour, the suspect was charged with insulting religious feelings. Authorities continue to monitor related cases of attacks on religious sites in the region. The incident in Białystok is not unique. Only a few days earlier, in Trzebinia, a man tried to set fire to the Church of Saints Peter and Paul (OIDAC reported).
